New Case Study: City of Apache Junction, Arizona

Mid-West GIS was contracted by the City of Apache Junction to create a comprehensive traffic sign inventory using GPS data collectors, and migrated into an ESRI personal geodatabase model. The project entailed collecting over 180 miles of road in a city with a population 35,000 summer residents, and over 75,000 winter residents. Apache Junction is a popular winter time vacation destination in the eastern suburbs of Phoenix.

Sign Inventory

Argonne National Laboratory in Illinois has contracted with Mid-West GIS!

anl_logo_headArgonne National Laboratory in Illinois has contracted with Mid-West GIS for the migration and collection of utility data for their 1,400 acre facility. The data project will include the conversion of AutoCAD data into an ESRI geodatabase, and the collection of field data with highly accurate GPS points. Mid-West GIS will use Real Time Kinematic (RTK) GPS collection for the entire project. This project will begin in June of 2014 and will be completed by the end of the Summer.

Mid-West GIS has completed the Muscatine County Iowa Traffic Sign Inventory.

Mid-West GIS has completed the Muscatine County Iowa Traffic Sign Inventory. Over 3,200 signs on 600 miles of road were collected using highly accurate GPS data collectors. 23 different attributes were collected for each sign, as well as high resolution digital photos of the face of each sign. The data was developed in an ESRI personal geodatabase, and will be updated and maintained by the Muscatine County Engineering Staff.

Shane McDermott will be presenting at the Missouri GIS Advisory Council Outreach Committee Northeast Missouri Regional GIS Workshop in Hannibal, Missouri onThursday May 22, 2014. This is a regional meeting that will cover introductory GIS topics and regional project presentations. Shane’s presentation will be on Mid-West GIS ongoing project with the Hannibal Board of Public Works. This project begun in 2011 and has included the collection of their Electric Distribution Network, Sanitary Sewer Network, and flood data. Real Time Kinematic (RTK) GPS data collection and the use of the Missouri RTN Network will also be covered.

Muscatine County Iowa Traffic Sign Inventory Project

Muscatine County Iowa has contracted with Mid-West GIS to create a GIS & GPS based Traffic Sign Inventory. This will be a complete inventory of all traffic signs on County maintained roads. This project also included the implementation of a  digital photo of each signs that will be used in the maintenance of the signs by County staff. The project is scheduled to start in March 2014.

City of Apache Junction, Arizona awards Mid-West GIS Traffic Sign Project

The City of Apache Junction, Arizona has contracted with Mid-West GIS to create a GIS & GPS based Traffic Sign Inventory. This will be a complete inventory of all traffic signs on city maintained roads. This project also included the implementation of a sticker bar code system including digital photos of all signs that will be used in the maintenance of the signs by city staff. The project started February 10, 2014 and will be completed in April 2014.

Taeven Thompson Joins Mid-West GIS

Mid-West GIS is pleased to announce the addition of a new employee. Taeven Thompson joins our team as a GIS Technician. With a Bachelors degree in Geographic Information Science and experience in municipal GIS & GPS data conversion, Taeven adds valuable experience to our team.

City of Portage, Indiana Sanitary Sewer Project

Mid-West GIS has been awarded a contract in partnership with The Sidwell Company to collect the City of Portage sanitary sewer system. This data will be collected with Real Time Kinematic (RTK) GPS data collectors, which provide the highest level of accuracy possible, with sub centimeter accuracy for the x and y values, and sub two centimeter accuracy for the z (elevation) value. Manhole inspections and invert elevations will be collected as part of this project as well. Work will be completed in the Summer and Fall of 2013.

Jefferson County Illinois 911 Addressing

Mid-West GIS has been awarded a contract in partnership with The Sidwell Company to create address points for all addressable structures in Jefferson County, Illinois. The project will include the creation of approximately 12,000 address points inside the county. Work will begin in late April 2013 and be completed by mid summer.
